Ashley is Here!

Ashley is here!
The doctors are all amazing. We went in this morning and Cari was immediately taken back and the process was started. All the doctors and staff were especially nice to my parents and I and were very careful to make sure we were updated as soon as they could.
The STATS: 9:53 am, 15inches, 3lbs, 13oz.
As you can see from the picture she did have to have a tracheotomy (?sp), but the procedure wasn't rushed, and she always had a great Oxygen level and pulse! Wooohooo DOCTORS!!!
This was taken after they had got Ashley stabalized and were taking her from the OR to the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit).
Important info: She has no lower jaw. Non-existant. She also has no tounge. So there will be some issues there (the observation has been made that we all get to learn sign language now!). The throat structure has some other issues developmentaly, but all correctable with surgeries--that will happen later.
Her lungs are also underdeveloped. She is on a special ventillator called an oscillator (breathes 900 times per minute for her--normal is 60) to help her O2 levels stay high and her Carbon Dioxide levels low. They also have started a treatment of nitrous oxide to help the blood vessels in her lungs pass the blood gasses correctly. It is a fairly new treatment but works great on pre-mature babies. Ashley is on the borderline for when they would normally do the treatment but because she is so small they are treating her as more of a 34 week baby rather than a 35 week baby.
We are taking it in short bursts. More info to come from the doctors tomorrow.

Thank you for all the prayers. We appreciate the love and phone calls!

Glad to see all has gone well so far. I like your take on the new language skills you will all be acquiring. She is a doll, and so tiny! We'll keep praying for all of you.

Jeff and Cari,

Congratulations! She is so precious! You are in our prayers. I just want you guys to know that even though it is a scary time, remember that the Lord is with you and he is there more than ever. Louis and I went through a similar situation when Dylan was born. What came of it was a stronger testimony of prayers, blessings and fasting. So please remember that there are people who love you and want to help! We will definitely keep you guys in our prayers! She is beautiful~ Take Care!
